The common cold is a viral infection in the upper respiratory system. A cold also sometimes affects the nose, ear, and vocal cords.
There is no cure for a cold, therefore rest and drinking fluids is essential to a quick recovery. Over the counter medicines can also relieve symptoms such as a cough, fever, or congestion. A cold can last a week up to three weeks so it's important to drink only water and avoid sugary and/or drinks with high sodium such as coffee and alcohol.
